Did you know that reducing the humidity in your home can reduce the cost of running your air conditioning? If you minimize mid-day activities that add humidity to the air, such as washing and drying clothes, watering plants, showering, and cooking you will lower your air conditioning bill. When you do engage in these activities, use should always use ventilating fans to move the humid air around.
Try these additional steps and save on your next a/c bill.
One of the most important things to reduce your air conditioning bill is to clean or replace your furnace filters per the manufacturer’s recommendations. Most people clean or replace the filter once a year, and this is not often enough. We have found that replacing the filter every month or two is ideal if the air conditioner is running most of time.
To keep your home cooler, pull coverings over sun-facing windows or install outdoor awnings to shade the room from direct sunlight. You should also get the air moving in your house by using a whole-house fan or ceiling fans, or circulate air using the “Fan Only” setting on your heating system. By getting the air to move in your home you can set the thermostat on a higher setting thereby reducing your electricity bill.
